The adventures of living across county borders….

With a subdivision that not only straddles the border of Tuolumne and Mariposa counties but also touches the Stanislaus county line we end up with some rather unique challenges and benefits. This means that the neighbor down or across the street might actually live in a different county than you do. It also means that somewhat odd situations arise – for example:

The phone company assigns a prefix to our area (852) that shows up in the Stanislaus County phone book as a Waterford prefix.

Five out of the subdivision’s six units (in both Tuolumne & Mariposa counties) have their mail delivered by the La Grange (95329) post office, which is actually located in Stanislaus County, meaning that your address zip code does not match the county where your property is physically located. Then the Coulterville post office (95311, in Mariposa Co.)  delivers to most (but not all) of the lots in Unit M1 but also to some properties located in Tuolumne County.

This means residents need to check their rates on things like car insurance because companies tend to go by zip code and the rates for Stanislaus Co. tend to be higher than either Mariposa or Tuolumne Counties. Also the smog requirements.

Living an equal distance from several different urban/shopping areas gives us unique and varied choices for recreation, shopping and services.

But can be a bit confusing when trying to look up phone numbers. The handiest aid for important numbers and local vendors is the little Don Pedro phone book available at our office and pictured here. In the front they list not only emergency numbers but many useful numbers for Don Pedro and both counties so you avoid having to search through several county phone books.
